A £1.5m government funding award could be used to deliver two larger projects in Thanet, the local council has said.

The district is among the recipients of the Pride in Place Impact Fund designed to support improvements to community spaces, public spaces and high streets.

Thanet District Council said it was initially considering allocating the money to a smaller number of bigger initiatives rather than several smaller ones.

The money is separate to other projects such as the Margate Town Deal and the Plan for Neighbourhoods programme, which includes Ramsgate.

Ruth Duckworth, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and property, said: "The Pride in Place Impact Fund specifically focuses on ways to breathe new life into areas that need it most.

"We want to deliver improvements that reflect the unique character of our district and the aspirations of our residents."

Next steps will see an initial list of potential projects drawn up and consulted on with the district's two MPs and the council, with residents input guiding the final decision, said the local authority.

Initial reports on projects to be supported by the fund, which is intended for capital projects, are due to be submitted to the government in February 2026.
