Earl Treasure was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court for seven years

A man who threw loaded firearms out of his car window during a police pursuit has been jailed for seven years.

Earl Treasure, 46, hurled two guns from his car as he drove "dangerously" and "recklessly" along Manchester Road, Sheffield, in June 2024.

After the car eventually came to a stop on Pearoyd Lane police recovered two blank-firing weapons which had been converted into "viable firearms" nearby.

Treasure, of Newton Place, Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm, two counts of possessing ammunition without a valid certificate and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

He was also handed a driving ban of 11 years and six months.

According to South Yorkshire Police, Treasure had shown "a lack of care for the safety of other road users", running red lights, driving in the centre of the carriageway and crashing into street furniture as he sought to evade police.

Forensic testing of the weapons found Treasure's DNA on each firearm.

Officers found a bag of weapons when searching the nearby area

Det Con David Stacey, who was the officer in charge in this case, said: "Treasure drove without care in an attempt to conceal his involvement with firearm enabled criminality.

"It is only down to sheer luck that no innocent members of the public were injured during his reckless efforts to avoid police."
