Crews tackle wildfire near railway line

Essex fire crews were called to a field fire by a member of the public
- Published
Crews have tackled a large wildfire close to a railway line.
It broke out near Cressing, Braintree, and covered approximately five hectares of stubble, cornfield and hedgerow.
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service was called out just before 14:00 BST on Monday and requested additional support from Halstead's water bowser and an off-road vehicle from Burnham.
Station manager Scott Fretton said: "Crews worked hard in hot and dry conditions to surround the fire which ended up jumping over the railway line to a small embankment."
Mr Fretton added the control room had "some difficulty finding access points for the site" and encouraged people to download the what3words app.
He said the app helped control colleagues find the exact location of the incident to the west of Tye Green using the words "rephrase.loosens.noon", external, which helped them get crews out more quickly.
