A South Yorkshire Police officer who wrote a false report on an alleged domestic abuse incident and lied to get time off has been sacked.

A misconduct hearing was told PC Natalie Nield wrote a false and misleading report and failed to complete a risk assessment when responding to a 999 call in January 2023.

Later that month, she lied about childcare responsibilities to get out of a shift to go on a night out with colleagues.

A panel found the officer guilty of gross misconduct and dismissed her without notice.

The two-day hearing, held in Sheffield last week, was told PC Nield denied both allegations.

One of the allegations related to a call-out on 1 January 2023 when a woman dialled 999 to report she had been assaulted by her partner and her partner's father, who has dementia.

Upon arrival, PC Nield was informed of three alleged assaults.

The panel said despite each of them amounting to an allegation of domestic abuse within South Yorkshire Police's policy, PC Nield did not record the incident as a crime and decided to close it.

The panel concluded the subsequent entry of the incident was false and misleading and only made reference to one allegation of assault.

PC Nield also failed to complete a domestic abuse, stalking, harassment and honour-based violence assessment.

Barred

Later, PC Nield was allocated to work a football event on 14 January but said she was unable to as she had no one to look after her three children.

It later transpired PC Nield had lied and was in fact attending a social event in Leeds with colleagues.

The panel concluded PC Nield had demonstrated persistent dishonesty and showed no evidence of genuine remorse or accepting responsibility for her actions.

It concluded PC Nield should not be allowed to continue working as an officer and was placed on the police barred list.
