A 15-year-old boy has denied murdering an 80-year-old man who was attacked in a park in Leicestershire.

Bhim Kohli died on 2 September, a day after he was injured in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, while walking his dog.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, is charged with manslaughter and murder.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday.

A 12-year-old girl, who police said on Monday had been charged with manslaughter, also appeared in court but did not enter a plea.

Her plea hearing is scheduled for 24 January.

The boy is expected to go on trial on 17 February and has been remanded in custody until a pre-trial hearing on 24 January.

A family statement released following Mr Kohli's death described him as a "loving husband, dad and grandad" who "loved to laugh".
