Cinema chain Vue has confirmed it will take over a multiplex in Nottingham city centre, after Cineworld announced it would be closing the site.

On Monday, Cineworld said it would leave the 14-screen cinema in The Cornerhouse after screening its final film on Sunday 2 February.

In a statement, the cinema's landlord described the closure as "unfortunate", but confirmed terms had now been agreed with the new operator.

Vue said the cinema would reopen later this year following a temporary closure and refurbishment.

A Vue spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we will be coming to The Cornerhouse, Nottingham.

"We're very much looking forward to bringing guests the ultimate big screen experience later this year and will share more information in due course."

A spokesperson for the building's owner added: "The cinema will close temporarily for a substantial refurbishment that will deliver a state-of-the-art cinema for Nottingham city centre."

Cineworld previously said the Nottingham venue was closing as part of a UK-wide restructure of the business.

Other Cineworld sites in Castleford, Leigh, Northampton, Middlesbrough and Poole will close on Sunday.
