Care home to be built despite opposition

An 82-bed care home is set to be built in a market town that has a growing need for facilities to support elderly people, a council said.
Wiltshire Council approved the applicant Aspire LPP's plans for the home, which will be located on Longleaze Lane in Melksham, on 21 August.
The proposals were given the go-ahead despite Melksham Town Council objecting to the home's "size and scale".
A council report stated that three new care homes were needed by 2030 to meet local demand.
An application to demolish an old farm to make way for five new homes near Cricklade was also debated at Wiltshire Council's planning committee meeting, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service
Under the proposals, Windmill House, on Common Hill, and an adjacent semi-detached property will be demolished.
Applicant Assessment in Care Ltd said the buildings had a "poor architectural quality”.
Wiltshire Council also approved an application to convert the upper floor of The Codmother, a Corsham chip shop, into a residential flat.
