Tribute paid to councillor who died in crash

A councillor who died in a crash on Friday has been described as a "community champion" by colleagues.
Councillor Melville Durrant was involved in a collision involving two vehicles on the A30 at Chyandour in Penzance.
Penzance Council said it was "greatly saddened by the tragic passing" of Mr Durrant, with town Mayor Councillor Stephen Reynolds calling him a "pillar of the community".
He said: "He always was a characteristic presence in council meetings, always a man who spoke his mind which I very much appreciated, but more than that - he's been known and loved and appreciated for the work he's done within the community."
Mr Reynolds said the council would be speaking with his family and community groups to see how to commemorate his legacy "so that future generations can understand what he did for his local community".
"We need community champions like Melville and he will leave a big hole with his passing."
