A car stranded on Cleethorpes beach is still to be removed after it became stuck on Saturday, the council has confirmed.

HM Coastguard said they were called to reports of a stranded 4x4 and two water scooters at the Lincolnshire resort at about 11:15 BST on Saturday.

A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said the authority was working with the Coastguard and vehicle owner to enable the retrieval of the vehicle.

“Due to the location, it is a more complex removal than normal," the spokesperson said.

"It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to remove the stranded vehicle and prevent pollution, but we are monitoring the situation and assisting where we can.”

The Coastguard advised against driving vehicles on to beaches saying they can "become submerged quickly".
