A man found to be carrying a stun gun in a park in Cheshire has been arrested.
The 52-year-old was stopped by patrolling police officers after they heard what they described as a crackling sound in Phoenix Park by the Bridgwater Canal in Runcorn on Monday night.
The man was restrained after becoming aggressive and then found to be carrying a small stun gun, Cheshire Constabulary said.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon for the discharge of electrical incapacitation, using threatening words or behaviour and obstructing the police. He was later released on bail.
Insp Karl Dickin said: "This is a good example of our officers being out there on patrol keeping our communities safe by using their instincts and experience to spot those who might be up to no good and challenging their behaviour.
"We will continue to police our communities and make arrests in order to make our streets and outdoor spaces safer for everyone."
