Council to fund local community projects
- Published
A council in Surrey is now welcoming applications for funding to support local community projects.
The Spelthorne Borough Council funding is coming from its 2024/2025 Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
The CIL is money raised from developments to help fund the infrastructure needed to mitigate the impacts of extra homes.
Malcolm Beecher, the chair of the council's environment and sustainability committee, said more than a third of the funding raised had been allocated to go towards projects which supported local growth.
The CIL funding in 2023/2024 saw almost £60,000 committed to projects including a new roof for a scout hut to improve disabled access for a local swimming club.
In the past, projects including new playground equipment in local schools, community building improvements, and investment in CCTV have been funded.
Decisions on the most recent round of applications will be made by local spending boards, including all ward councillors, for each area in the borough.
The deadline for applications is 31 March.
