A 12-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a teenage girl was stabbed in Sittingbourne, Kent Police has said.

The 15-year-old girl suffered injuries "consistent with a knife wound" at Adelaide Drive just before 16:00 GMT on Friday.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on Monday.
