River death not being treated as suspicious

A man in his 50s has been pronounced dead after his body was pulled from a city-centre river.

Police were called to reports of a man in the River Wensum in Norwich at 15:38 GMT on Thursday near Riverside Road.

Fire and ambulance crews, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.

The death is being treated as unexplained, but police do not currently believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

A force spokesperson said he was “recovered from the water and sadly pronounced dead at the scene”.

Officers said they had informed the man’s next of kin.
