More than £30,000 has been given to several Wolverhampton charities by the city's former mayor.

Councillor Linda Leach fundraised for three charities during her year as mayor by hosting quizzes, a fashion show, baking contests and the Mayor's Fest rock concert.

She has now presented £31,037 to be shared between Beacon Centre for the Blind, Wolverhampton Samaritans and Age UK Wolverhampton.

She said it was a honour and privilege "to promote and work alongside some of the most dedicated and compassionate individuals".

"Over 2024-25, I had the pleasure of meeting many inspiring and selfless volunteers who play an essential role in the life of our city," she said.

"Quite simply, our community could not do without them.

"Wolverhampton's proud motto, 'Out of Darkness Cometh Light', sat perfectly alongside my personal theme for the year: 'Every Person Matters'.

"Together, they express everything I hoped to highlight and celebrate during my time as mayor."

She said the donations will help meet the essential costs of keeping the services running.

The current mayor, councillor Craig Collingswood, is supporting Compton Care, Acorns Children's Hospice, SSAFA armed forces charity and the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity Trust.
