Partial wall collapse closes road for two months

The road is set to be closed until the end of November

The partial collapse of a stone wall during the weekend's stormy weather has led to a section of a road in the east of the Isle of Man being closed for two months.
The lower part of Church Hill, in Laxey, has been shut to pedestrians and traffic while repair works take place on the wall, which supports the land to the south of the Manx Electric Railway Station and Christ Church.
The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said its highway services division and the Manx Electric Railway have worked together to "make the area safe" and a contractor had started the repairs.
A diversion is in place via Captain's Hill for traffic to reach Glen Road, the department said.
It was currently estimated the works would take until the end of November, however, the timescale could change depending on the conditions found on the site further down the road from the railway bridge, the DOI said.
Although the road between Glen Road and New Road has been closed, access to the parking area behind the Co-op, Laxey Manx Electric Railway Station and Christ Church remains available from New Road.
Access to residential properties would remain available from either side of the closure, the DOI said.
