Public urged to use new online fire safety tool

The Isle of Man's Fire Service is encouraging the public to use an online tool which will assess that people's homes are fire safe.
Launched in May, the online form asks people questions about various rooms in provides advice, and will notify the fire service if a home requires a physical visit.
David Dallimore from the fire prevention team said that the campaign was to encourage the public to use the tool and to test their smoke detectors.
A fire service has launched a campaign featuring posters designed by school children to promote uptake of the self home checks.
Mr Dallimore said the tool had been "working really well", which meant officers did not have to "spend as many hours going to properties".
The fire service also runs an initiative called Tester Tuesday to encourage people to test smoke detectors every week, as having one that works "can save lives", Mr Dallimore continued.
To help highlight the new tool and the importance of smoke detectors, the poster competition was held among school children along with a quiz relating to fire safety.
The winning posters will have their designs printed and used as part of the fire safety campaign.
Mr Dallimore said the competition had had "lots of entrants" and was in part an attempt to reach more households about fire safety.
