A further 70 homes have been approved near the site of a former airfield in Surrey.

Councillors approved the plans for new homes to the south of the former Wisley Airfield site with new access to Ockham Lane, by six votes to four on Wednesday.

Councillor Catherine Young said: "This development will permanently change the little hamlet beyond recognition."

Officers recommended the development for approval and said the public benefit of the housing outweighed the heritage harm, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The airfield already has planning permission approved for 1,730 new homes.

Guildford Borough Council initially refused the proposal but the decision was overruled by a government inspector.

The approved Ockham Lane application was for an outline proposal, meaning the specific details on its appearance will be decided at a later date.
