Two women have died in a three-vehicle crash in Somerset.

The women, who were the driver and passenger in a silver Ford, were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on the A361 Marston Road near Frome.

Emergency services were called at about 15:10 BST on Thursday to the crash involving the Ford, a black Land Rover and a lorry.

One person travelling in the Land Rover was taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The women's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specially-trained officer, Avon and Somerset Police said.

The road was closed until shortly after midnight while investigation work was carried out and the road cleared.

The force is now appealing for information and has urged witnesses or those with dashcam footage of the incident to get in touch.
