A man has appeared in court following an incident in which shots were fired on a residential street in South Yorkshire.

Armed officers were called to Broom Road in Rotherham at about 16:45 BST on Thursday following reports of gunshots in the area.

Evidence consistent with a firearms discharge was found at the scene, according to a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

Edison Muliaj, 29, of Bradgate Lane, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, violent disorder and possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place and he was remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 29 September.

A 33-year-old man who was arrested last week on suspicion of possession of a firearm in connection with the incident had been released on police bail while investigations continued, the force spokesperson said.
