Polling booths opened at 07:00 BST in 16 constituencies across Merseyside, and 10 constituencies in Cheshire.

Five of those Cheshire constituencies are in the north west of the county, including Warrington North and Warrington South.

Votes will be counted after the polls close at 22:00 BST.

The results for Merseyside are estimated to come in after 01:30 BST on Friday. In Cheshire, results are expected from 03:00 BST, also on Friday.
