A former fine-dining restaurant, which used to be run by a Michelin star chef, can be turned into a home after a planning inspector gave it the go-ahead.

Renaissant in Bagnor closed two years ago. In 2022 it was described by the Guardian's Grace Dent, external as a "bizarre, 19th-century Cannes aristocrat's supper room, hiding in a hamlet outside Newbury".

The owners appealed to the planning inspector after West Berkshire Council failed to make a decision on the proposals within the statutory time frame. The appeal was approved earlier this month.

As well as the being used as a restaurant the building has also spent time as the Michelin-starred pub, The Blackbird. Both were run by chef Dom Robinson.
