A police officer has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash, Greater Manchester Police said

A police officer has been seriously injured and a man has been arrested after a crash involving a police motorcycle and a van.

The incident happened earlier on Ashton Old Road in Manchester.

The officer who had been riding the police motorcycle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, Greater Manchester Police said.

"The driver of the van, a 60-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving," GMP said.

He has been taken into custody.

Alan Turing Way was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, police added.
