A burglar photographed by a heavily pregnant woman while he rummaged through her bedroom has been jailed.

Cambridgeshire Police said officers identified 34-year-old Kevin Wall from the woman's photograph.

Wall, of no fixed address, "terrified" the woman when he broke into her Cambridge home in May 2023, a detective said.

He was handed a five-year jail sentence by a judge at Cambridge Crown Court earlier this week after admitting burglary and other offences.

'Days from giving birth'

Wall had "broken in" then said he was "from the council", police said in an online statement, external.

Officers said he had pushed the woman after picking up a purse.

"He ransacked the downstairs before walking into the victim's bedroom where she was resting," said the police statement.

"He found a purse containing £2,500 and pushed the victim away as she attempted to retrieve it."

Police said Wall left the woman's house and added: "The victim managed to take a photo of Wall as he was rummaging through her bedroom."

A spokeswoman said officers had identified Wall from the photograph.

Det Con Zoe Bramley said the woman had been "days away from giving birth".

"She was genuinely terrified," added Det Con Bramley.

"She didn't know what Wall was capable of and feared for the safety of herself and her unborn baby."

Police said Wall was arrested days later after leaving blood at the scene of a break-in at another Cambridge property.

They said he had made off from that burglary with "sentimental jewellery" and £25.

A court official said Wall was given a five-year jail sentence at Cambridge Crown Court on 12 June after admitting burglary, handling stolen goods, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and escaping lawful custody.
