Car park to shut for three months
- Published
A town centre car park is to shut for three months for work on a new development.
The temporary closure of the Gap car park, Shrewsbury, is to allow for boreholes to be drilled as part of the Smithfield Riverside regeneration scheme.
The scheme is intended to redevelop the town centre, and includes the demolition of the Riverside Shopping Centre.
The closure was a "vital step" in the transformation of Shrewsbury town centre and drivers could instead park at the nearby Raven Meadows multi-storey, the council said. The car park will shut for 12 weeks from 8 July.
The ground investigation work would generate some noise, but would be carried out during "suitable hours" and the sound minimised where possible, stressed the authority.
