A Norfolk man who sent sexually explicit photographs of a woman to her family, some from when she was under the age of 16, has been sentenced.

Lewis Simpson, 26, of Hewett Close, Gorleston, pleaded guilty to distributing an indecent photograph of a child and disclosing a sexual photograph with intent to cause distress.

He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court to a 12-month community order, required to undergo a relationship building course, fined £100 and placed on the Sex Offender's Register for five years.

Norfolk Police said the victim was left feeling "suicidal and depressed".

'A real impact'

The offences took place between November 2020 and January 2021 when offensive messages and explicit "selfies", from when the victim was a teenager and later as an adult, were sent to her family.

They were shared via Facebook, text, email, and WhatsApp.

Police said they were able to identify Simpson from the location of a Facebook account which was set up and used to send some of the messages.

PC Dave Moran said: "These types of cases can have a real impact on the victim and be incredibly harmful.

"We will pursue these kinds of offences in order to make sure there is some kind of justice done on behalf of the victim who was brave to come forward."
