Building to be demolished to make way for tower

Plans to tear down an empty building in order to construct a six-storey tower have been given the green light in Sheffield.
The new building in Broad Street will include 15 one-bedroom apartments and a commercial unit.
According to developers, it will increase "the supply of much-needed housing" in the area.
Sheffield City Council's planning and highways committee approved the plans two years after the application was submitted.
To make way for the new building, near the Park Square roundabout, the vacant commercial premises in "a poor state of repair" will be removed, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The flats would be accessible via a lift and a main staircase, planning documents said, with a commercial unit on the ground floor.
In its application, the developer said: “The proposed development of 15 one-bed apartments will increase the supply of much-needed housing in the area which will help reduce the demand for housing in other more sensitive areas of the city.”
