A man and woman have appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old boy.

Charlie Roberts was found critically ill in Frosterley Drive in Darlington on 11 January and died the following day in hospital.

Appearing at Teesside Crown Court, a 38-year-old man, who has denied murder, was remanded in custody to face trial on 12 November.

A 40-year-old woman, charged with child neglect, was given conditional bail to appear on the same date.

The man, who appeared via video link from prison, is also charged with child neglect.
