Preferred operator chosen to run golf course - council

A preferred operator to take over the running of a council-owned golf course in Derby has been chosen.

Derby City Council told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) it has identified a company to manage Sinfin Golf Course, off Wilmore Road.

The site's current provider - Sheffield City Trust - had previously expressed an intention to surrender its lease with the authority by August, according to the LDRS.

The council said negotiations were in progress with an unnamed firm.

The LDRS said in April that several firms had submitted bids to take over the running of the 18-hole course.

The council then appointed specialist agent HMH Golf and Leisure to undertake a “comprehensive marketing exercise” to identify a new external operating tenant for the course.

According to the LDRS, it is proposed that the authority will grant a long lease of at least 25 years to any new operator to give them sufficient time to facilitate investment in the golf course over the short, medium, and long-term.

A council spokesperson said: "A preferred operator has been identified and negotiations are currently in progress.

"We're looking forward to sharing more information about this in the coming weeks."
