Herefordshire Council is looking to make savings of £19.5m in the next financial year

  • Published

A service offering advice and support to benefits claimants in Herefordshire is to be dropped.

A letter from Herefordshire Council warned claimants that the service would stop from 31 March.

It advised them to seek benefits information from the council-backed BetterOff Herefordshire and Talk Community websites, Citizens Advice, Age UK or the government’s website instead.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said its welfare and financial assessment team would continue to support residents requesting help with care and support needs, including welfare benefit checks to maximise income.

The decision comes after the local authority announced it needed to make savings of £19.5m across its services to balance its books in the next financial year.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
