People have been warned of potential disruption on the roads as emergency power supply work starts in Plymouth city centre.

National Grid has closed the inbound lane at the Exeter Street junction into Bretonside. The outbound carriageway has also been reduced to one lane at the same junction.

Martyn Hallam, network specialist, said: "This work is urgently needed and essential to ensure the security of the power supply to the majority of the city centre."

The company said the work to fix a “critical electricity circuit” could take up to three weeks.

Mr Hallam said: "We plan to maintain power supplies, as well as access, to homes and businesses throughout the repairs and will be working hard to minimise disruption.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this work will cause in this busy area of the city and thank people in advance for their patience."
