Works are to be carried out to improve the safety and accessibility of parking for disabled users.

Wiltshire Council will be resurfacing part of the Church Street car park in Melksham and installing new payment machines on 30 and 31 July.

The disabled parking bays will be upgraded, machines will be positioned to allow easier access for all users, and new ramps will be installed where appropriate.

It is part of a £380,000 investment into the town's car parks to ensure the community is "vibrant" and "well-connected".

Councillor Nick Holder said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works, but this will improve the quality of the parking bays, as well as provide easier access for people with disabilities.

“We understand the needs of all our communities, and the differences between them, which is why this upgrade will provide people with more choice on how they want to pay, as well as making them more accessible," he added.

The rest of the parking machines, which are compliant with the Equality Act 2010, will be installed over the next couple of months.
