Two men have been jailed for stabbing to death a 21-year-old who was trying to protect his friends.

Salah Eldin Adam was attacked in a garden in Kings Road, Old Trafford on 31 May 2023 by Demari Rose, 20, and Xaviour Wynter, 21.

The two men, both of no fixed address, were seen acting aggressively towards a group earlier that day.

At Manchester Crown Court Rose was jailed for life with a minimum of 24 years for murder, while Wynter was jailed for 13 years and eight months for manslaughter.

'Devastating'

Reports of a disturbance around Kings Road were made to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) at about 19:45 BST on the day of the murder.

Officers found Mr Adam in a garden with fatal stab wounds to his neck, the court heard.

A review of CCTV and house-to-house enquiries by police revealed Rose and Wynter had threatened Mr Adam and his friends with knives earlier in the day.

They later chased one of Mr Adam's friends into a back garden.

The 21-year-old came to help but was attacked in what Rose claimed during his trial was "self-defence".

GMP Det Chf Insp Liz Hopkinson said Mr Adam was a "young adult whose life was taken far too soon".

His death was a "devastating" reminder of the impact of knife crime, she said.

Mr Adam's family said he was a "very loving person", who was "beyond what we could ever wish for as parents" in a tribute to him.

He had volunteered for charity and was "very loyal to his family and friends and would give so much as long as it made someone happy", they said.

"We feel like we have got justice," they said, but added "the hole Salah has left will never be filled".
