A multimillion-pound plan to demolish 1960s-style bungalows and replace them with modern homes has been approved.

Waverley Borough Council in Surrey has signed off two developments worth a combined £17m.

The schemes will remove 10 homes in Springfield, Elstead, to create space for 26 new properties.

The council also agreed to build 20 affordable homes in Ockford Ridge, Godalming.

The two sites still require planning permission and residents can give their views on the developments in consultation events.

The council said the new housing would be of a “variety of homes of varying sizes” and would be “genuinely affordable housing”, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Councillor Nicholas Palmer,  co-portfolio holder for housing delivery, said the project would help “meet the challenges that the council faces in continuing to provide housing that people can afford to live in”.
