Fundraiser for Deal or No Deal contestant passes £100k

Brad Wale won just £5 when appearing on the ITV game show Deal or No Deal

A fundraiser for a contestant who won just £5 on a TV game show has passed the £100,000 jackpot he missed out on.

Brad Wale, who has motor neurone disease (MND), had told viewers of ITV's Deal or No Deal he hoped to use the jackpot to fund a bucket list.

The appeal was set up for Wolverhampton-born Mr Wale - who now lives in Bridgnorth, Shropshire - by a fellow contestant.

Thanking donors in a Facebook post, he said: "You’ll never begin to understand how much you’ve changed my life or what you’ve done for me."

Rochelle Brown set up the appeal after Mr Wale missed out on the main prize.

The 30-year-old, from Scunthorpe, told fundraisers: "You have done an amazing thing for Brad and you should all be so proud of yourselves for your kindness."

She had originally set a £20,000 target for the appeal but it quickly surpassed that amount with more than 9,000 donations.

'Exceeded wildest dreams'

Mr Wale said he wanted to use the money to travel and pass it on to his partner and family.

"When Rochelle Brown set this fundraiser up I just thought it would be something my family donated to," he added.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect what it’s actually reached."

MND is an uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves and causes weakness that worsens over time.

The NHS said there was currently no cure although treatment can help reduce the impact on a patient's day to day life.
