A new provider has been found to run post office services in the south of the Isle of Man following doubts over their future.

The future of the Port Erin sub post office had been uncertain after the sub-postmaster, running it, tendered his resignation last April.

However it was given a reprieve when he agreed to stay on temporarily.

The Isle of Man Post Office announced Mannin Retail Limited will takeover the running of the business on Church Road from 2 April.

The firm is also due to offer parcel collection services at the same location following a procurement process.

Post office chairman Stu Peters said he was "confident the residents will be pleased" that the service would stay in the same location, all the current services remaining available.

The collection of benefits and pensions from the location would also remain available at the premises, he added.

The current provider is set to remain in place until 28 March before Mannin Retail take over three days later.
