The company wants to try out newer buses because technology has moved on since its previous electric bus trials

Jersey's bus company is trialling an "emissions-free" bus without passengers this month.

LibertyBus said the double-decker bus would be trialled on some of its routes until 13 December, and then with paying customers on route 15 if the initial runs proved successful.

The company said it had run electric bus trials previously but wanted to test newer models before deciding which buses to buy as technology had "moved on" in recent years.

Director Kevin Hart said the company was excited about the trial and was confident the bus would be suitable for the island's roads.

The bus is about 15cm longer than the current double-deckers

Mr Hart said LibertyBus was inviting feedback from customers after trials conclude.

The battery-powered electric bus being trialled seat up to 73 passengers and would keep "operating costs to a minimum", the company said.
