A major road between Hampshire and Surrey has been closed in one direction after a crash.

Hampshire police said officers were called to a "serious collision" on the southbound A3 at Liphook at about 13:00 BST, but gave no further details.

The Inrix traffic service reported road closures and slow traffic as far back as the A283 near Milford, Surrey.

National Highways said the Hindhead Tunnel was shut and would remain so into the evening.

In a post on X, the organisation reported: "The A3 Hindhead Tunnel (Surrey) is closed southbound between the A283 (Milford) and A333 due to a collision and vehicle fire further south in Hampshire.

"Closure expected through the afternoon & into the evening – please allow extra time & plan ahead."

A separate post suggested the closure might be lifted by 19:00 BST.

National Highways advised drivers to divert via the A31 and then take the A325 through Bordon.
