A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following reports of a gun being fired.

Police were called to Winchester Avenue in the Bentilee area of Stoke-on-Trent at about 15:30 BST on Tuesday.

Staffordshire Police said nobody was injured and a 28-year-old man was in custody.

Forensics officers searched an address near Wooliscroft Road earlier.

One resident said she had heard shots being fired "one after another".

Another said he heard several shots being fired while in his back garden with his grandchildren.

The 70-year-old said he recognised the noise from his time in the army.

"I fear for my grandchildren,” he said. "You don’t want to be running into somebody who’s got a [gun] in their hand."

The police force said its inquiries were continuing.
