Man dies after being struck by car

A 69-year-old man has died after being hit by a car near Magherafelt, County Londonderry.

The incident occurred near a junction on the Magherafelt Road, close to Grange Lane, between the village of Tobermore and Magherafelt, shortly after 17:50 GMT on Thursday.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours to allow investigations to take place but has since reopened.

Detectives are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The police are urging anyone with information or relevant CCTV or dash cam footage to contact them.

In a statement, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they received a 999 call at 17:50 on Thursday and tasked three emergency ambulances, a rapid response paramedic, and an ambulance doctor to the scene.
