A man in his 80s has died after being hit by a van near Clonmany in County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.

It happened on the R238 road at Annagh at about 18:20 on Wednesday, gardaí (Irish police) said.

A spokesperson said arrangements would now be made for a post-mortem examination and the local coroner had been notified.

The man is the ninth person to be killed on the roads in County Donegal since mid-July and according to provisional Garda figures the 15th to die on the county's roads in 2024.

The R238 has been closed to allow officers to carry out technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí have asked witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
