Police have named a man killed in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A75 in south-west Scotland.

Ross Wood, 32, died at the scene of the accident near Springholm at about 01:15 on Friday.

He was driving a silver Ford Mondeo which was involved in a collision with a Scania HGV.

The lorry driver - a 57-year-old man - was taken to Dumfries Infirmary as a precaution.

Police said their inquiries into the crash - which shut the road for several hours - were still ongoing.

Sgt Neil Moffat said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Wood at this very difficult time.

“We continue to appeal to anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch.

"Likewise, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then contact officers."
