Police are appealing for the driver of an HGV to get in touch

Three people are in hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Midlothian.

Police were called to the incident, on the A7 near Tynehead, at about 22:15 on Friday.

Two occupants of a silver Volkswagen Passat estate - an 80-year-old man and 79-year-old woman - were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

The 69-year-old man driving a blue Vauxhall Grandland attended Borders General hospital with a serious injury.

Anyone who witnessed the event or who may have dash-cam footage is urged to contact police, external.

Police Scotland said: "We would like to speak to the driver of a heavy goods vehicle who was travelling behind the Vauxhall prior to the collision.

"If that was you, please get in touch."
