A major Somerset A-road is closed in both directions after a serious crash involving a car and a van.

The A303 is expected to be closed for a "number of hours", National Highways said, between A358 Horton Cross and A356 Norton-sub-Hamdon.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to the scene at about 15:30 BST, and the road remains closed due to debris and fuel spill.

The force has advised drivers to avoid the area and said fire and ambulance services were also in attendance.

Diversion routes are in place, with drivers travelling eastbound advised to follow signs with the solid circle diversion symbol.

Road users heading westbound should follow the solid triangle diversion symbol, National Highways said.
