A pedestrian has been killed in a "hit-and-run" on a dual carriageway, a police force has said.

Northamptonshire Police said it was called at about 08:00 BST on Thursday after a man was found lying in undergrowth on the A43 in Kettering, between Rockingham Road and junction seven of the A14.

The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours.

The force said it was "vital" that it traced the driver to check on their welfare and "to find out happened".

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is investigating and detectives want to hear from anyone who may have seen the pedestrian between 19:00 on Wednesday and 06:50 on Thursday.

A statement released by the force said the SCIU was "appealing for witnesses following a fatal hit-and-run".

Det Sgt Sebastian Greschner said: "This is a very busy dual carriageway linking the north of the county to the A14 and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, particularly if you have dashcam footage which could assist with our enquiries."
