New splash pad to be built in £550k scheme

A new splash pad is to be created in Droitwich with the council investing £550,000 in the project.
Councillors have given the scheme at Lido Park the green light, which will see the water play area moved to near the tennis courts.
Work on the site is set to start early next year year and will support expansions plans for the lido, said Wychavon District Council
The new splash pad is expected to open by May 2025.
A spokesperson for the council said the current water play area, which opened in 2011, was "past its best, frequently breaks down and is costly to repair".
"Without investment, [it] may be out of action for long periods during the summer or fail completely," they said.
Companies are currently bidding for the project and the council said it was hoping to hire a firm before the end of the year.
It said the new design would reflect the heritage of the park and the town.
New water play areas have already successfully been installed in Evesham and Pershore.
Councillor Beverley Hardman, Wychavon’s Executive Board Member for Boosting Natural Capital, said: "The new water plays in Evesham and Pershore have proved tremendously popular and I am delighted it is now Droitwich Spa's turn.
"This is just another way we continue to invest in our award-winning parks so residents and visitors can enjoy spending time in them."
