Teenager knocked down then attacked after being chased onto road

A 17-year-old is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a coach and then attacked while he was lying on the ground.

The victim had been chased onto the road by another teenager at South Gyle Access, Edinburgh, at about 14:50 on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old is being treated at the the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The attacker is described as a white male, aged about 17, about 5ft 11in tall, with a slim build. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark beanie hat.

Police Scotland said the victim had been approached by two males who had got off the number 22 bus.

One of them chased him onto the road, where he was hit by a coach travelling in the opposite direction and then attacked.

Det Sgt John Dunn said: "This was a violent, unprovoked attack and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to track down the male responsible.

"We believe there were members of the public who will have witnessed the incident and are yet to speak to police, so would encourage anyone with information to please come forward."
