A pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car.

It happened on Darwen Road in Bolton, Greater Manchester, at 12.49 GMT, police said.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital with "significant injuries", North West Ambulance Service said.

It said another person, whose age and gender has not been disclosed, was also taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were investigating the crash.
