'I'm nervous around bikes' - blind pedestrian
- Published
A blind man has said he has been left angry and nervous after being hit by cyclists on the pavements of Worcester.
Andy Muxlow said one crash had left him with a smashed white cane and facing a torrent of abuse.
It is illegal to ride a bike on the pavement in the UK, unless it is a designated cycle lane, yet it is a common sight around many towns and cities.
"I love walking, but I'm having to change the route I take, which is longer than going through the city," Mr Munslow said.
Describing one crash, he said: "I was using my white stick correctly, going left to right.
"He hit my stick, the ball of it shattered and he didn't even stop or apologise, he just shouted a load of abuse...[I was] absolutely livid."
Mr Muxlow said it was a path he had walked many times before, but said the narrow pavement coupled with presence of bikes made it a stressful experience.
"I know they [cyclists] need to get around, but have a little more consideration," he said.
