A seaside resort in Lincolnshire is set to host an "amazing" display of illuminations as part of a free arts event.

LightWaves, which is due to take place in Sutton on Sea, will feature a host of events, including a fire garden and projections inspired by the British explorer and naturalist, Sir Joseph Banks.

The event also includes a four-metre-high hourglass installation, filled with images, animations and audio recordings from local people.

Residents will be able to record their messages at the Meridale Centre on 26 August ahead of the main event on 26 October.

Councillor Graham Marsh, who has been involved in planning the "amazing" event, said it would transform the resort "into a kaleidoscope of colour that is not to be missed".

It would also help to build on the success of other recent events in the area," he said.

"I am especially pleased that we can continue to collaborate with local artists, communities and schools to help produce the various installations that are set to feature," he added.

The workshop on 26 August takes place from 10:00 to 13:00 BST and from 14:00 to 17:00 BST.

The main event takes place between 17:30 and 20:30 on 26 October.

The event, organised by South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, in collaboration with Spilsby Sessions House and SessionsArts, will also feature street theatre and a lantern parade involving local children and community groups.

It is part of Arts Council England's National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) project, which aims to support culture, heritage and creativity.
