Eight pods containing litter picking equipment are being installed across North Lincolnshire.

They are designed for use by the volunteers who tidy up the area, and they contain bin bags, bag hoops, litter grabbers, gloves and hi-vis vests.

The equipment is returned to the pods after use, with the bags of rubbish left next to council bins for collection.

North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham said: "These new volunteer pods are a great way for residents to show pride in our area by doing a litter pick while out and about.

"Every bit helps and it makes a huge difference to the environment.

"We have some amazing volunteers and community groups who are as determined as we are to battle these litter louts, which is why it is so frustrating that some people continue to think it is acceptable to drop litter in the first place."

The council said it spent more than £1m a year cleaning the area.

In 2023, the authority increased fines for littering from £150 to £200.
